Description
ABDOULAYE SADJI immerses us in the poignant story of Maïmouna, a young girl from rural Africa, initially drawn to the promise of the big city, but whose experience in Dakar turns into a cruel disenchantment. Pretty, full of dreams and innocence, Maïmouna quickly becomes a victim of urban excesses. After suffering in this urban jungle, she returns to the village, near her elderly mother, to heal her wounds and find peace. There, armed with new lessons, she comes to appreciate the simple and profound values of rural life. Through Maïmouna's moving journey, Abdoulaye Sadji sensitively and lucidly explores two worlds, two ways of life, two conceptions of existence and morality, revealing the many facets of a contrasting Africa.
