Description
Waiting for the Wild Beasts to Vote portrays a certain President Koyaga, in whom it is easy to recognize many African dictators.
Over the course of six evenings, he listens raptly to his praises sung by his griot. Koyaga is too full of himself to realize that these praises are ambiguous and barely conceal fierce criticism.
But Kourouma's book is not a political pamphlet. It subtly dismantles the contradictions between an often hollow technocratic discourse and the deep attachment to the beliefs of an Africa several thousand years old.
